Companion to the clouds

মন মোর মেঘের সঙ্গী
Mon mor megher sangi / Mono mor meghero shongee

Companion to the clouds, my heart,
  Soars beyond all horizons
          Towards the wide open void
              With bright, lyrical pulse of the Sraabon* outpour;
My mind glides on swan-wings,
         Amid slight, startling spurts of lightning;
How the storm flashes her ankle-bells,
                             Resonating with fierce delight!
Mountain springs call out for a tempest
              Gurgling with deep resonance;
Blowing in from the Eastern sea
                            The wind gushes over
Boisterous, bubbly waves of the river;
   My heart darts -- stirred by a savage current
             Surging in tune with
              Clamorous branches of the forest groves.

Sraabon* - the second month of the Rains, in Bengal.

  1. Wonderful translation! Thanks.

    But sad to see that 'rimi jhim' and 'ucchal chhalo chhalo' have been left at Asansol, in a manner of speaking.

    Love your work and Best wishes to the team.
